Chris Condon criminal Townsville Showground Manager organised crime thug and criminal.LIBERAL National Party candidate for Herbert Ewen Jones has rejected suggestions his party is helping to fund political assassin Chris Condon's attacks on Labor candidate Tony Mooney.

However Mr Jones did reveal yesterday that Mr Condon was teaching his son, Andrew, how to box and that Mr Condon had never shown himself to be anything other than supportive.

In other developments, Townsville City Council has defended its position amid allegations it lost Mr Condon's 2008 council election donor disclosure form.

The council also restated its reasons for not prosecuting Mr Condon for allegedly failing to provide the disclosures because the cost was likely to be "many thousands of dollars".

Mr Condon launched an aggressive anti-Tony Mooney advertising campaign during the 2008 council poll and last week launched a similar campaign against the former mayor in his bid for the seat of Herbert.

In launching his latest campaign, he claimed the council had lost his 2008 form.

Yesterday, Labor's Local Government Minister Desley Boyle said she would ask the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) to investigate Mr Condon's electoral advertising disclosures.

"Quite frankly the source of Mr Condon's funds should have been revealed after the local government election," Ms Boyle said.

"There are questions as to why the Townsville City Council decided not to prosecute Mr Condon after they indicated that he had failed to make a third party declaration.

"Now Mr Condon says he did submit a third party disclosure return as he was required to do under Section 430 of the previous Local Government Act 1993.

"The Bligh Government is undertaking serious electoral reforms to ensure fairness and transparency and I am concerned that what has occurred in Townsville does not measure up to integrity standards. Mr Condon has claimed he played a major role in the local government election.

"It is imperative then that the source of his funds, which he has indicated is in the tens of thousands, is properly made known.

"There may also be questions that need to be answered by those persons who contributed to Mr Condon's campaign if they have themselves not lodged a proper return."

Mr Jones said from his point of view Mr Condon's attack on Mr Mooney was a distraction from his campaign and Labor's poor record and that he would rather Mr Condon refrain from his attacks which he believed dated back to the council's 2005 support for the showmen's guild when it was in a wrangle with the show society.

Mr Condon is the showgrounds manager.

"The argument is (about) what he (Mr Mooney) did when he was mayor but he has not been mayor for three years," Mr Jones said.

"The last thing I need is for people to start to feel sorry for him."

Mr Jones said Mr Condon's campaign had nothing to do with the LNP or himself.

Mr Jones said he knew Mr Condon through performing a role as master of ceremonies at the Townsville Show and Mr Condon's training of his son, Andrew, at boxing.

Mayor Les Tyrell has refused to comment on the CMC probe but Townsville City Council CEO Ray Burton has written to the Townsville Bulletin to "point out a number of critical facts".

Mr Burton said the council did not receive a "Third Party Disclosure of Election Gifts and Expenditure Return" from Mr Condon for the 2008 local government election.

"Council wrote to Mr Condon on May 1, 2008, June 10, 2008, and October 8, 2008, requesting he submit the required paperwork. He did not provide the disclosure."
